Good News and Bad News

Posted March 14th, 2010 by M. Whitley

The good news is we are on a different server with a modern version of the code I used to maintain this site. The bad news is the uploading of rides seems broken. Manually adding rides works but, until further notice, be leery of the upload.

Please stay tuned.

Garmin Upload Progess

Posted January 20th, 2009 by M. Whitley

I have updated the Garmin upload plugin to provide more feedback while processing ride uploads. Now the webpage will show you when the ride is being processed and when it has completed. No more “counting to 30″ to give the system time to process the file – the page will tell you exactly when it has finished.

This new RSS feed will display the last 25 ride entries in the log. The link for each entry takes you to the ride detail page where you can view chart and map info if you are using a Garmin Edge.

Enjoy!

More Training Log Features for Garmin Users

Posted February 3rd, 2008 by M. Whitley

Four new features have been rolled out for Garmin users:

  1. Data archiving – Now when you upload your Garmin history to the training log we automatically archive the data file and tie it to the workout created in the log. You can look at the data file by clicking the “D” (for data) link in the training log main screen in the “Extras” column. Some of these files can be quite big so please be patient when viewing these files in your browser, it might take a while to load. Archiving of the data files will allow us to do some really cool things like …
  2. Google Maps integration – When your Garmin history file contains GPS data we will automatically create a link in the training log main screen to a Google Map with your ride drawn. This link is also in the “Extras” column and is namd “M” (for maps). Clicking this link will pop open a new window with the Google Map of your ride. To see what it looks like, click here to see a ride of mine from back in December.
  3. Auto Population of Default Bike and Route Type – Rides uploaded from your Garmin will now automatically be set to your default bike and type as selected in the “My Bikes” section of the training log.
  4. New “Max Speed” and “Max Cadence” data points – The training log now supports these two new fields for everyone. Garmin users will have this data filled during upload if the history files contain this information.

Stay tuned we have some more very exciting things planned for Garmin data!

Training Log Now Supports Garmin Devices

Posted January 26th, 2008 by M. Whitley

Adding rides just got very easy for Garmin owners. We have added initial support for Garmin to Training Log direct uploads using the new Garmin Communicator plugin. The web browser plugin works on both PC and Mac systems and is easy to install. Once installed, follow these steps:

  1. Hook up your Garmin device
  2. Log into the training section
  3. Click the new link on the main ride log page
  4. The first time you access the page, you will be prompted to allow this site access to your Garmin device: click yes to allow.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to upload

If you are batch uploading more than one workout, please note this can take quite a while. Even if the page looks like it’s done, wait 30 seconds or more before navigating to a different page. We are still working on a few issues so if you find a bug, please let me know.

I’m also participating in a medical study designed to detect exercise induced hyponatremia in extreme heat aerobic athletes. Should be interesting!

I registered under the Team name of Code Zulu Cycling.
